Timely

We needed a couple more 2014 calendars for the house (okay, I admit, I'm not happy unless there's one in practically every room) so I stopped by BAM to shop their 50% calendar sale, at which I found this:

Cynthia Hart's 2014 Victoriana Calendar is a 25th anniversary edition, so they packed it with extra goodies: four lovely die-cut postcards, a neat standing year-long desktop calendar, plus a code to get a free digital page-a-day calendar online (and because of the light I darkened it quite a bit to tone down the flashy spots, so it's a bit lighter than this.)

It's odd, sometimes, what sort of calendars attract you. I have black-and-white Zen in the office but nothing in the kitchen, which is pretty much where I live when I'm not sleeping or writing. Also, I'm not usually into chicky stuff like this -- Ansel Adams really is more my speed. Still, for some reason I simply could not resist it. Everytime I look at it I'll think Victorian for sure.

Since I saved 50% I picked up an extra to give away here on the blog. Which brings me to this:

If you'd like to win the lot, in comments to this post name something fun that you'd like to do this year by midnight EST on Sunday, January 26th, 2014. I'll draw one name at random from everyone who participates and send the winner the Victoriana calendar package along with a signed print copy of Disenchanted & Co. and a signed print ARC of The Clockwork Wolf. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, so please join in.

  1. This summer I'd like to make the most of the blissful six weeks I'll have off between finishing grad school and starting teaching. This will possibly mean sitting around reading novels for six weeks, but it could possibly mean traveling somewhere or taking in all the sights right here in Chicago. Or maybe I'll just sleep a lot.

  2. I'd like to go on holiday but won't. I can't spend money on myself when I've got outstanding bills. I had to pay a contribution towards the refurbishment of the flats I live in - a huge contribution - and I feel obligated to clear that debt before treating myself. So the smaller things I want to do include finishing off my first quilt, making 2 baby quilts for people who've announced pregnancies and watching my niece get married.

  4. What a great giveaway!

I'd like to finish the Victorian bathing suit I've been 'working' on for months. It keeps falling to the bottom of my to-do list.

  5. A friend gave me a coffee table book on the history of LONGWOOD GARDENS in PA. The story is remarkable about how it was built and I want to visit every season to see the flower displays.

  8. A change of scene would be my objective, but two new grandchildren will be arriving so my obligations are to family.

  10. I would love to be able to go to a conference so that I can meet some of my favorite authors. First though I need to work on my back problems, which have been getting worse lately (now going through physical therapy again) and work more on my anxieties in crowds.

  11. I'm with you. I love the 'zen' look and Ansel Adams inspires me to be a better photographer. But the 'girly' Victorian look. I would like to take the digital mandalas I create and photographs and turn it into a calendar for 2015. Not a monthly one, but a weekly one, with a new picture each week.

  13. I'd love to travel somewhere further than my 15 mile radius of back and forthing....preferably to a book signing or comic con, but unless I win the lottery it's going to remain a hope.
